KITTITAS COUNTY, Wash. — Four people died in a fiery Polaris ATV rollover crash in the Wenatchee-Okanogan National Forest in Liberty, Washington, on the afternoon of Saturday, July 29, 2023.
The victims, all in their twenties, were traveling down a dirt road in a Polaris RZR side-by-side ATV when the vehicle rolled over and suddenly caught fire. Kittitas County Sheriff’s deputies and fire units responded, treating the injured and working to contain the gas-fueled blaze in the sensitive forest terrain.
Two victims died at the scene — 23-year-old Benjamin Gomez Santana of Covington and 24-year-old Halle Cole of Maple Valley. Two other victims — 24-year-old Conner Jenkins of Orting and 26-year-old Devon Anonson of Kent — were treated by medics and transported in critical condition via helicopter to Harborview Medical Center’s burn unit, where they later died.
Polaris has issued at least 19 separate recalls related to fire dangers in their vehicles since 2015 alone.
